Special education is instruction that is specially designed to meet the individual needs of students with disabilities.
When students struggle to learn, it is important to find out why. It may be that a disability is affecting your child’s educational performance. If so, then your child may be eligible for special education and related services.
Students may be referred for a special education evaluation by parents because of concerns the parents have identified or possibly concerns their family physician has discussed about a child’s development.
If you have concerns about your child and would like to discuss a special education evaluation please contact your child’s school and ask to speak with the school counselor or the special education assessment person for your child’s campus.
Infants and toddlers may have disabilities, too. Services for children with disabilities are available through the public school for children with disabilities starting at the age of three. To refer your child not yet attending school, contact the Student Support Services department and request to refer your child for a special education evaluation.
