Liberty Hill High School Senior, Cora Kosnik, was named a National Merit Scholar Finalist.

Cora Kosnik, daughter of Dr. Paul and Cris Kosnik, a senior at Liberty Hill High School, was named a National Merit Scholar Finalist. The National Merit® Scholarship Program is an academic competition for recognition and scholarships that began in 1955. Approximately 1.5 million high school students enter the program each year. In early September, about 16,000 students, or approximately one-third of the 50,000 high scorers, were notified that they had qualified as Semifinalists. Semifinalists are designated on a state-representational basis to ensure that academically talented young people from all parts of the United States are included in this talent pool. Semifinalists are the highest-scoring entrants in each state. In February, some 15,000 Semifinalists were notified that they had advanced to finalist standing.

Beginning in April and continuing to mid-June, NMSC notifies approximately 7,500 finalists that they have been selected to receive a Merit Scholarship® award.

To support her finalist nomination, Cora earned the highest possible ACT composite score of 36 in December 2020.  Fewer than half of 1 percent of students who take the ACT earn a top score. In the US graduating class of 2021, only 4055 out of 1.29 million students who took the ACT earned a top composite score of 36. Cora was also selected for the College Board National Rural and Small Town Recognition Program because of her academic achievements in school and outstanding performance in the PSAT/NMSQT® and AP® Exams. She is an AP Scholar with Distinction, granted to students who receive an average score of at least 3.5 on all AP Exams taken and scores of 3 or higher on five or more of these exams, scoring 5's on five exams taken to date.
