No medications are kept in the nurse’s office for general distribution. The school does not supply cough drops due to this being a choking hazard. Parents/Guardians may send OTC Medication and/or cough drops in their original package and labeled with the child's name along with a signed medication consent form.

Parents/Guardians must supply the school with the medicine in the original container and fill out a medication consent form in the nurse's office. Expired prescription or nonprescription medications will not be administered. The medication must be age-appropriate. 

Our district policy is to give the medicine in the morning before school, after school, and before bedtime while at home. We have limited space to store medicine.

No, all controlled medication must be delivered by the parent/guardian. 

Your child should stay home if they have had a fever of 100 degrees or higher within the last 24 hours, active vomiting or diarrhea within the last 24 hours. Red, itchy eyes with discolored drainage present or a rash of unknown origin (especially if drainage is present).

This will vary depending on the illness. 

Your child may return after he/she has been fever free without fever-reducing medication for a full 24 hours.

A temperature of 100 degrees F or above orally, is considered a fever.

Yes! Please call the campus if your child is sick. This allows us to document the type of illnesses that are spreading.

Please report your child's positive test results here: LHISD COVID Positive Reporting Link for Students and Staff. Your campus nurse will then contact you about your child's quarantine and when he/she can return to school. Please reach out to your child's teacher directly in regards to school work.

If your child has an illness and is experiencing symptoms, a doctor's note is required to return to school. Quarantining is recommended but not required. If you choose to quarantine your child, please email us at Health Services with the necessary information (child's full name, campus, grade, last day on campus, symptom start date).  We will then contact the school on your behalf and send you your child's return to school date. Please reach out to your child's teacher in regards to school work.

Parents/Guardians must supply the school with the inhaler and other attachments (spacers) in the original container with the student's name on the RX label. A medication form must be filled out along with an Asthma Action Plan form by the child's physician.

Yes, the campus nurse monitors the records and will notify you if your child is due for immunizations.

Your child must be current on vaccines or an original notarized Affidavit for Reasons of Conscience provided to be enrolled.

Parents must treat the child with an FDA-approved shampoo or cream rinse before returning to school and please report the occurrence to the school nurse. If head lice are discovered on your child at school, you will be called and given the option to pick him/her up. 

Your child is allowed one excused day to shampoo and remove nits.

No, these are not FDA approved and should be given at home.

All PK (4), K, 1, 3, 5 and 7th graders including all new students to LHISD are screened for vision & hearing.
