Additional Information Regarding SHAC

Every independent school system is required by law to have a School District Health Advisory Council; of which the majority of members must be parents who are not employed by the school district.  Title 2, Chapter 28, Section 28.004 of the Texas Education Code details the specifics of this mandate.  For additional information, see the SHAC Guide for Texas School Districts.

For more information about School Health Advisory Councils, see the Texas Department of Health and Human Services School Health.

What is the School Health Advisory Council?

Texas law (Texas Education Code, Title 2, Subtitle F, Chapter 28, Subchapter A, §28.004) requires the establishment of a SHAC for every school district. A School Health Advisory Council (SHAC) is a group of district and community stakeholders approved by the school board to serve at the District level to represent the community. Members of the SHAC represent different interests of the community and the school district, but the majority of members must be parents who are not employed by the District. SHACs are required to meet at least four times each year. Information from SHAC meetings is posted on the LHISD website as per TEC and policy requirements. If you are interested in reading more about SHAC, learn more about the program here..
