Liberty Hill ISD Establishes New Safety and Emergency Operations Position
Liberty Hill ISD is pleased to share that our Board of Trustees approved the new position of District Safety and Emergency Operations Coordinator to enhance our proactive approach to student and staff safety.
Our Board approved Joe Taveras to fill this role during a special-called board meeting on Monday, Sept. 2, 2023. In this position, Joe will promote safe and secure teaching, learning, and work environments by leading and supporting emergency preparedness. He will assist the district, campus administration and staff in developing and maintaining the district’s multi-hazard, emergency operations plan, resolving conflicts and ensuring that the student school code of conduct and policies are followed on school property and/or at school events. Joe will also assist in providing a safe and secure environment for students, visitors, parents, staff, and district assets while supervising district campus safety officers and crossing guards.
Joe grew up in New York City and was a sophomore in a high school near the twin towers during the 9/11 attacks. This tragic event motivated him to enlist in the U.S. Army at 18 years old where he served for five years and deployed to Iraq twice.
After serving in the military he worked at Columbia University, rising through the ranks to become Technical Project Manager for the Department of Public Safety. Recently, his wife May and their two children, Nyah and Josiah, moved to Georgetown, Texas to be closer to family. They are excited to join the Liberty Hill community. “As a father myself, I understand how important it is for parents to feel their children are protected at school,” said Taveras. “I look forward to collaborating closely with administrators, staff, students, families and first responders to make LHISD as safe as possible. It's great to be a Panther!”
We are very excited to welcome Safety and Security Coordinator Joe Taveras to the Panther Family!
