Kathy Major Resigns from LHISD Board of Trustees After Years of Dedicated Service
Liberty Hill ISD announces the resignation of longtime Trustee and Board Vice President, Kathy Major, who has served Place 4 since May 2018 and was elected as vice president in November 2020.
Mrs. Major’s decision comes after deep personal reflection and is rooted in her steadfast commitment to family. In a message to the community, she shared that she is stepping away from the board to provide full-time care for her husband, Estes — honoring a promise made nearly 41 years ago.
“This was one of the hardest decisions I’ve ever had to make,” Major said. “But I’ve always lived by faith, family, and friends. To keep a promise made decades ago, I must now prioritize my family. It doesn’t mean my love for this district or our kids has changed — I will always be cheering Liberty Hill on.”
Originally from Montague, Michigan, Kathy Major came to Liberty Hill ISD in 1991 as an educator. While teaching, she earned her master’s degree in Educational Administration from the University of Texas at Austin, along with mid-management and supervision certifications. Over the years, she held numerous leadership positions in the district, including principal of Liberty Hill Intermediate School. Even after retiring from her professional career, her dedication to Liberty Hill ISD continued through her service on the school board.
“Kathy Major has spent more than three decades pouring into Liberty Hill ISD,” said Interim Superintendent Travis Motal. “From the classroom to the principal’s office to the boardroom, she has consistently centered her decisions around what’s best for kids. Her legacy is one of heart, integrity, and unwavering commitment. She will be deeply missed.”
As a board member, Mrs. Major brought both the insight of an educator and the perspective of a community advocate. Her leadership has helped guide the district through rapid growth and important strategic planning, always with a focus on students and families.
“Kathy is a force for good — a person who leads with compassion, conviction, and care,” said Board President Megan Parsons. “She has been a mentor and friend to many of us on the Board. Her impact on our schools and community will be felt for years to come.”
Mrs. Major’s term was set to expire in 2027. The Liberty Hill ISD Board of Trustees will begin the process of filling the Place 4 vacancy in accordance with board policy and Texas law.
While she may no longer hold a Board position, Mrs. Major assured the community she remains invested in the success of Liberty Hill ISD.
“Even though I won’t be on the Board, I’ll still be advocating for what’s right for our kids,” she said. “We love you, and that is why we’re here.”
Liberty Hill ISD extends its heartfelt thanks to Kathy Major for her decades of service and wishes her and her family strength, health, and continued joy in the years ahead.
