SMART Bus Rider Program

Did you know that approximately 5,000 students utilize Liberty Hill ISD bus services each school day? That’s a lot of kids! Our transportation team is honored to be part of our students’ beginning and end of each school day. Our drivers get to know their students and enjoy providing a safe, healthy, positive environment for them each and every day. In an effort to work together with our students to maintain this environment, we are implementing a new program called “SMART Bus Rider”.

Sharing this new plan with our bus riders will help students understand the boundaries the transportation department has set for our riders and the consequences of violating these requirements.

Smart Rider signs have been added to the buses and at the campuses near the door that exits to the bus loop or bus loading area. See an example here: SMART Bus Rider

Families can help us by reminding your students to be SMART Riders on the bus. Please see this color coded graph to reference positive behaviors vs. behavior offenses.

Additional things to note are:

  • The transportation department will be handling all the discipline for students on buses, and making calls to parents regarding both good behavior and areas needing improvement.
  • The transportation department is implementing a three strikes program; however, this will be on a case by case basis. Transportation Director Ann Hatton will reach out to the principal at the campus before suspending a student from the bus.
  • Bus drivers are being held accountable for their actions or lack of action as well.
  • All students are required to have a SMART tag badge to ride the bus.
    • All new students are provided a badge when they register to ride the bus.
    • If a student has lost their badge, their parent can purchase a new one at this link:
    • Beginning Sept. 5, the transportation department will be enforcing this requirement. Calls will be made to the parents for a week before a child is no longer eligible to ride the bus.
    • Badges are printed and sent to the campus front office and will be provided to the student as soon as possible.
