Liberty Hill ISD Hosts Flavorfest: A Culinary Adventure for Students

Posted Date: 3/20/24 (1:37 PM)

In a world where lunchtime often means the same old routine, Liberty Hill ISD Child Nutrition Services CNS dared to shake things up in the most delicious way possible. Today they hosted Flavorfest – a food tasting opportunity that left taste buds tingling and stomachs rumbling for more!

As students from across the district and grade levels descended upon the event, they were met with a feast for the senses. From savory to sweet, spicy to tangy, there was something to suit every palate. Picture this: rows upon rows of culinary delights, each one a tantalizing temptation waiting to be savored. This wasn't your average school lunch lineup. At Flavorfest, there's something for everyone. “Pulled pork with mac and cheese is our favorite,” exclaimed a group of fourth-grade boys. Tender, succulent pork paired with creamy, cheesy macaroni – it's comfort food at its finest, guaranteed to put a smile on even the pickiest eater's face.

But it wasn't just the tried-and-true favorites that stole the show. Enter the mysterious "beans of the sea" – a plant with a briny flavor and a clear crunch that had students buzzing with excitement. While it may sound unconventional, these little gems proved to be a hit among adventurous eaters. Chef Adrian from CNS explained, “sometimes chefs incorporate them into salads to provide a different texture and an unexpected burst of flavor.” This delectable little treat earned them a spot in the hearts (and stomachs) of Flavorfest attendees.

Students were able to share their thoughts on each of the dishes with our CNS team who will take them into consideration when planning out their school lunch menu for next year. LHISD Chief Financial Officer Rosanna Guerrero was pleased to see the thought put into these comments, “they were so detailed,” she said. “It was nice to see our students of all ages providing feedback that was thoughtful and thorough.” We can’t wait to see what our CNS department comes up with for next year!
